Sorry for not posting in a while. I have been rather busy working for "the man" and all that. Been doing other work on the side to earn a few bucks as well. I'm trying to pay off a small debt I foolishly took on about six months ago. It will be paid off soon thankfully so I can ease back on the slave labor and start working more for "me". I can start working once again towards my goal of leaving the rat race behind. Hopefully leaving it behind for good.
As most of you know this blog is primarily meant to be a chronicle of my journey in doing just that. A journey to free myself from the Matrix and from being just another cog in the wheel. Not a whole lot has been happening in that regard right now as most funds have been going toward personal debt elimination
In fact I have not even been out to camp 420 in nearly two months.That is until the other day. Man let me tell you, mother nature sure has a way of reclaiming what is hers! When I pulled my $200 junk trailer out to my land it was so overgrown that I had to spend several days beforehand with a chainsaw a machete hacking out enough space to get it in. I continued to remove brush whenever I was there and even though there was still plenty more to do it actually started to look rather nice.
Upon visiting the other day I hardly recognized the place. Vines were growing up everywhere-even on the trailer. Grass and thorns were so thick I could barely walk through them. Dead tree branches were scattered all over the place. Still it was really nice to be out there on my own "paid for" piece of land. I highly recommend it to anyone.
With the summer heat now gone (and hopefully the west Nile mosquitoes along with it) I plan to start really working on the ole Zombie hideout in a serious way. I just purchased a good sleeping bag for the cool nights ahead and will be visiting the place on a regular basis once again.

ReplyDeleteGetting out of debt right now is paramount - I'm sure a whole lot of shenanigans will occur right after the election, there is a feel of 'the calm before the storm' in the air.
"The calm before the storm" I couldn't have said it better myself. Be prepared for mayhem on election day and shortly there after. If nothing happens then great. But if it does and you are prepared at least you'll be much better off than someone walking around with their thumb up their ass, completely oblivious to what's happening in the world. Be safe!

ReplyDeleteGlad your back. I was about to think you gave up on the blog. I dont narrow my time frame of concern closely to election day. With all the increasing tensions in the middle east I say from right now to maybe January that there will be some event or series of events. I'm not a Rambo survivalist type but everyone needs to stay ready. I've upgraded the wife from her 380 to one of my Glock 40 as her vehicle gun.
Keep your gas stores topped of and rotated. If nothing else you will save money in the next few months. Spend money only on needed preps and have a cash reserve. No matter what the economy does cash will be king for a while. The power company and tax office doesn't take bullets of junk silver yet.
Eliminating debt is great but time is short. Make a plan. Which or both vehicles do you let repo or surrender. If you cant do it now decide what service to cut later. Im in the sticks so we have basic red-neck cable and netflix ect. We save on running the roads IMHO. Something I just decided to keep.
We can cut everything but the power and one cell and let the car payment go back and cut bills drastically. We have a reserve that will get us through a rough spot or two and I have extra side jobs that keeps us ahead of the game for now. We plan on scrimping for Christmas this year as we have the past couple to have money for preps and debt elimination. Given a year, we will be debt free minus the land note. a few months and the economy car is paid off. Truck will take more effort.
Of course, food, water, shelter. I wish mine was paid for but a good friend and prepper holds my note. He said he would rather have me near-by than the money if it collapses.
Ditto on the heat in the south. 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico in MS here.

It seems to me that the biggest challenge is finding a locale where the land is still very cheap, yet there is at least some type of work to be had relatively close by?

Just remember, those vines make for some really good camouflage, and provide some shade, so think twice before removing them. Of course, if they're causing structural damage, that's a different story.
